The Midcounties Co-operative
Community Partner Engagement
We are really pleased that The Midcounties Co-operative are supporting Ashar by providing a grant to purchase stationery through one of their charitable giving programmes.
As a co-operative business they work to make our communities more sustainable and what stands The Midcounties Co-operative apart from other businesses is that they only do three things with their profits – invest in the business, distribute them to their Members and support local communities. They also have an established colleague and Member volunteer programme which gives Ashar the opportunity to take the lead and support community projects in our local area.
You may be interested to know that The Midcounties Co-operative is the largest independent co-operative society in the UK. They operate a range of businesses in Food, Travel, Pharmacy, Funeral, Childcare, Energy, Post Offices and Flexible Benefits. You can find out where your nearest trading branch is by using their store locator which can be found by visiting their website http://www.midcounties.coop/ and using the store locator option on the home page – remember the more you shop with them, the more profits they are able to return to the local community to support projects just like the one Ashar has recently received funding for.
They have four core values that guide the way they work – Democracy, Openness, Equality and Social Responsibility. These are derived from the values and principles of the co-operative movement. They believe they demonstrate the strength of co-operation and set them apart from their competitors.
The Midcounties Co-operative Society is owned by their Members, who not only share in their profits, but help us to continue their work. There is an option to join via their website by visiting http://www.midcounties.coop/Membership and selecting the ‘join us’ option.
As a Member owned business they value your involvement with them, this means that you can be involved in the decision making processes that drive their business and they would welcome you to join them each year at their AGM and Half Yearly Meetings; there may also be opportunities for you to join a local Regional Community Steering Group as an active Member.
